Take yourself on a journey around the Lodge’s superb park-like grounds, engage in a game of petanque or croquet, practice your golf game on our chip and putt golf hole or simply relax around the pool, taking in the magnificent vista. Mountain biking, jetskiing or horse riding excursions can be arranged for those wanting more activity.



The town of Cambridge, only a ten minute drive from the Lodge, is famous for its country charm, antique shops and surrounding thoroughbred horse studs.
Cambridge and the surrounding area boast a wide variety of leisure activities to cater to all tastes and inclinations. Some of these include:

Golf
Cambridge Golf Club is only a ten minute drive away, and there are several excellent courses within the Hamilton region.

Jetboating
Experience the thrill of a jetboat tour on Lake Karapiro, and see the region from the unique position of the water. We can arrange tours for both groups and individuals.

Kayaking
From beginners to the more experienced, kayak expeditions on Lake Karapiro are suitable for all ability levels.

Hot Air Ballooning
Excursions lasting approximately four hours in total can be arranged, with baskets providing room for up to seven passengers with flights usually taking place in the early morning or evening.

Maungatautari Mountain Ecological Island
Maungatautari Mountain has been developed into New Zealand’s largest inland “Island” reserve. An area covering 3,400 hectares has been fenced to keep out all predators so the natural bird and insect life will be protected. The North Island Brown Kiwi is thriving once again along with other endangered species. The entrance to the northern test enclosure is only a ten minute drive from the Lodge. A 20 minute drive will take you to the southern test enclosure where there is a wetland area, an award winning walking frame high in the tree tops and an acclimatisation aviary for bird species reentering the habitat. This attraction is currently free of charge.

Scenic Walks
There are a variety of scenic walkways in the Cambridge region, ranging from 15 to 90 minutes. The more energetic may like to tackle the summit of Maungatautari Mountain!

Karapiro Dam
The Karapiro Hydro Museum is open two days a week. There are nine hydro dams on the Waikato River and their fascinating history is recorded in the Museum.

Thoroughbred Stud Tours
We can arrange personally conducted tours of five renowned horse studs. The Cambridge area is known as the ‘Kentucky of New Zealand’ and these tours are highly recommended.

Antique Shops & Art Galleries
Cambridge and nearby Tirau are renowned for their antique shops and many excellent art galleries. The Cambridge Country Store is a local icon - situated in a magnificent hundred year old church, it offers a huge range of exciting and varied crafts, jewellery, New Zealand wines, gourmet food and more.

Wineries
There are several well respected local wineries within the Waikato vicinity and tours can be arranged upon request.
