Little lodge the big winner

A ‘little luxury hotel’ bounding Maungatautari Mountain and Lake Karapiro has taken out this year’s Waipa Networks Supreme Business Award.

The locality makes it central to popular tourist attractions such as Rotorua and Waitomo Caves and it is an easy drive from Auckland and Tauranga where many clients travel from. Corporate clientele is also increasing, especially with the conference facilities, and recently it was chosen as a retreat for Health Journeys
NZ - a five day immersion programme for people battling cancer.

But mainly it is the ability of Maungatautari Lodge to provide that complete getaway experience that is proving a winner.

Bush Fence Keeps PredAtors at Bay

An exciting milestone for conservation will be reached in the next fortnight when 30ha of native-bush-clad Maungatautari will be enclosed by a predator-proof fence.
The enclosure on the northern side of the 800m Waikato mountain - and another more than twice the size on its southern flank expected to be ready by May - will be the testing ground for an ambitious plan to ring-fence the entire 3400ha forested summit.

The first morsel of canape and I was under the spell. The bite-sized portion melted in my mouth, a parmesan-based pastry filled with red onion in balsamic vinegar and a touch of sour cream.

Where to stay South of Hamilton

Cuisine Magazine, Issue 99, July 2003
From the article “Greener Pastures”

While Christine Scoular’s fabulous red onion tartlets deserve undivided attention , the outdoor light show can outdo even the hors d’oeuvres. At sun-set, Maungatautari Lodge’s interior hues seem to reflect the blues and blushes of the sky, the glowing swimming pool and Lake Karapiro beyond. Hosts Peter and Christine Scoular swear the spectacular effect is accidental.

Where is it: Perched on a hill, overlooking Lake Karapiro, just South of Cambridge, in lush Waikato horse country.
